Oliver Hardy
Norvell Hardy cunoscut îndeosebi sub numele de Oliver Hardy sau Bran, a fost actor și regizor, cunoscând culmile faimei în cuplul de comici Stan și Bran. Fiu de avocat, laureat al Universității de Stat din Georgia, debutează ca actor și cântăreț de spectacole caracteristice Sudului, spectacole care se prezentau pe vase fluviale. Precoce fiind, prima lui apariție pe scenă a avut loc la vârsta de opt ani. În urma unui conflict, în timpul unor angajamente în Florida la o companie cinematografică, pleacă în Australia. Reîntors în SUA se angajează la Casa producătoare „Pathé”. Devine foarte popular în serialul Wallingford. Între anii 1918 și 1925 a lucrat la „Vitagraph” unde, în afară de actorie, a funcționat și ca regizor de scurtmetraje – interpretate de Larry Semon. În 1925, angajat fiind la „Hal Roach”, îl cunoaște aici pe Stan Laurel și formează celebrul cuplu. Bran, pe numele lui adevărat Oliver Hardy, a fost „mintea limpede" a perechii cinematografice Stan și Bran. Fraza legendară „This is another nice mess you've gotten me into! (Asta e o altă încurcătură în care m-ai băgat)" simbolizează relația celor două personaje care devin, din cei mai buni prieteni, niște nesuferiți care se șicanează tot timpul. Hardy și Laurel nu puteau realiza individual ceea ce au făcut împreună. „Lumea este plină de Laurel și Hardy. Există mereu prostănacul căruia nu i se întâmplă nimic rău niciodată și deșteptul care este, de fapt, mai prost ca prostănacul, doar că el nu știe", a descris Oliver sursa inspirației lor. Pasionat de golf, Hardy obișnuia să instaleze un miniteren de golf lângă platourile de filmare, unde fugea în fiecare pauză. Stan a glumit într-un interviu spunând că golful este singurul „obicei prost" pe care prietenul său îl are. În ciuda zvonurilor nu obezitatea a dus la moartea sa ci invers, din cauza faptului că a ținut o dietă masivă și prelungită care i-a slăbit constituția fizică. A suferit un prim atac cerebral serios la 12 septembrie 1956 în urma căruia a rămas paralizat și în imposibilitatea de a mai vorbi. S-a stins din viață, în urma unui alt atac cerebral la 7 August 1957. Actorul a fost recompensat cu o stea pentru rolurile sale din filme, situată în partea de est, aria 1500, pe Vine Street la Hollywood.
